They’re the cheapest option for a dedicated number and can be set up in just a couple of minutes, making them a popular choice if you’re on a budget or in a hurry to get started. The biggest advantage of long codes is that they support both domestic and international communications. They’re perfect for global businesses or companies who aspire to be one. However, if the success of your SMS program depends on customers initiating contact with you, you should consider a short code instead.

It’s the most reliable and preferable way for telecommunications / carriers to receive messages, as the messages from the bulk SMS provider is sent to them directly. For senders that need consistency and reliability, seeking a provider that uses ON-NET routing should be the preferred option.

It’s mobile marketing month here at Insivia and one of the questions we always get from out clients is whether or not our clients should be capturing mobile phone numbers from their customers to use in future forms of SMS marketing. A lot of the times it’s thought of being too intrusive but I’m here to tell you otherwise. For a lot of businesses collecting mobile phone numbers is a great opportunity for you. With SMS messaging over 95% of all SMS text messages that are sent are opened by the end user. As opposed to email where it’s about 6-15% of those emails are read. Mobile marketing and text message marketing is a great opportunity to directly interact with your customer. One of the best ways to do it is to include an opt-in for a mobile phone number on your opt in forms and your other marketing materials giving your customers the ability to give you their phone number to receive SMS interactions from your business. One of the things that I would not recommend is making this a mandatory requirement for people to give you their cell phone number but leave it to them as an option. If somebody wants to receive mobile messages from you, you want to give them an opportunity because the success rate is so high when working with SMS and direct message marketing.
The need to generate subscribers does not go away after your text marketing campaign launches. You should keep a continual focus on acquiring more mobile numbers to grow your subscriber base. A custom sender ID, also known as an alphanumeric sender ID, enables users to set a business name as the sender ID for one way organisation-to-consumer messages. This is only supported in certain countries and are up to 11 characters long, and support uppercase and lowercase ASCII letters and digits 0-9. Senders aren’t allowed to use digits only as this would mimic a shortcode or virtual number that they don’t have access to. Reputable bulk SMS providers will check customer sender IDs beforehand to make sure senders are not misusing or abusing them.
This question exists for many. First, NEVER EVER purchase a list of mobile numbers. (SMS/MMS) marketing is permission based, and ultimately you want a list of customers numbers who are genuinely interested in your product or service and are happy to receive your text message and are likely to buy your goods and service. Remember, you can turn customers off and possibly upset a lot of your potential customers when sending text messages on their mobile devices without their consent.
